Situated on high cliffs, overlooking one of the largest natural harbours of the world, Mahon offers many spectacular viewpoints whereas its old town boast a melting pot of many historical buildings like the church of Saint Mary which treasures one of Europe's most important organs, the picturesque fish market and its buoyant tapas bar, the former Carmelite Cloister which houses the food market, the Oliver manor house with its unique murals, the Governor's Palace, first setting of the historic saga Master and Commander and the Teatro Principal, one the oldest active opera theatres of Europe.
